Hey All!
We are back after a couple of weeks off and what a weekend to be back. Some great shows featuring out of town bands and some great locals as well.
We're starting our weekend early with our Thursday recommendation, indie folk rockers Green & Gold with Bleu both from Newfoundland along with Carmen Townsend.
Friday, the after work recommendation is former Next Big Thing winner Lena Murphy at the Black Spoon. This will be their last buffet and entertainment before the summer, so get out and check it out. Later Friday night we have one of our co-top recommendation of the weekend with Slowcoaster tearing up Embers along with Brian Cathcart of Pretty Archie.
Saturday's first recommendation bring us to Mabou and the Red Shoe Pub as their season of live entertainment is getting going, this weekend featuring Eddie Cummings. Ambassadors for Nova Scotia music and good times, McGinty will be providing the tunes at the Whycocomagh Waterfront Centre Saturday night. Local favourites Alter Ego are rocking the Sydney Mines Firemens' Centre as well on Saturday night. The second part of our co-top recommendation for this weekend is Craig Mercer performing a JSB acoustic set, along with a single release party for his band the Will Be Gones along with Jordan Musycsyn, this is going to be a great show to top a great weekend of live music around the Island.

The weekend of love is upon us. We decided to only have a couple of Valentine's recommendations as we already have a Valentine's Day Events and Specials post, so head on over and check that out for a more complete list of Valentine's related activities. Our weekly recos start as they often do with a great show at Governor's. Friday night brings our top recommendation with hip-hop group City Natives bringing their Red City East Coast Tour to Club 418. This is a great chance to check out a top notch group. Quite the variety of shows going on for the Halloween weekend. Thursday night kicks it all of with a couple of big shows, Lennie Gallant release party and Cape Breton Smile on the second of two evening performances in Sydney. Friday brings us no shortage of great shows especially in Sydney but fear not for those who will be elsewhere, plenty of great Halloween shows and dances, you can get a list at Music Guide Cape Breton. What a weekend we have coming up this weekend on the Island. As mentioned last week, the rest of the Island has many great shows going on this weekend as Celtic Colours gets kicked off. Starting Friday and running through next Sunday, Celtic Colours has multiple shows running around the Island each day, see our Celtic Colours Schedule for more information.Also this weekend, the tradition that is Gobblefest continues. - Apparently serving as the 'artist in residence' for the Old Triangle this weekend. Rowdy Dow will be playing various sets from Thursday to Saturday Night, including a late afternoon set on Saturday. They're putting in the effort so if you're in the area, check em out.
- 4th Annual Lumière Festival - Around Sydney
- Not necessarily strictly a music event but always quite enjoyable. With events and workshops taking place Thursday and Friday and the Art at Night installations taking place Saturday with the official after party at Flavour on the Water staring at 11 PM. For more info check out the Lumière Festival website. This is a great chance to get out and walk the city, meet other people and generally have a great time. Highly recommend taking at least some of it in.

Various - Kitchen Fest! - 2014
Running from June 29-July 5 is Kitchen Fest! Inspired by the Cape Breton "Kitchen Party", various locations around the Island will be hosting some of the best musicians from the Island. The plan is to make this an annual event to celebrate Gaelic culture, this will be the inaugural event. Most events will run 9 PM-12 AM with a $10 cover charge.
