Cape Breton Music Roundup #1 - August 29 - August 30 2014
Hey All,With the summer coming to close in Cape Breton, many of the big events are out of the way as we lead into the fall. With that in mind, we've decided to add a new feature that will be posted on Thursday or Friday each week depending on what events are going on that week. The Cape Breton Music Roundup will point out a couple of big, can't miss musical shows happening on the Island that weekend or possibly in the upcoming week.
This will also give a chance to launch an early version of one of our web apps Music Guide Cape Breton. A simple tool that will allow you to see which musical events are happening on the island for the next two weeks! At the current time we only have a few days of events available but we are adding more all the time. Currently the features are limited to seeing a map overview and list of musical events happening for which ever day you have selected. In the future we are planning on adding the ability to create a list of events for yourself, so you can keep track of events you may want to attend, we will also be adding the ability to create YouTube playlists of available artists for your viewing and listening pleasure and much more. The web app is currently integrated with the blog but in the coming weeks we may move it out to it's own site for ease of adding new features.
Music Guide Cape Breton serves as an early preview of our main Travel Guide Cape Breton web app, as both are built with the same technology, Travel Guide Cape Breton however will be a far larger more feature rich app. Since both are built with similar technology and the Travel Guide Cape Breton interface will be based off the same interface as Music Guide Cape Breton, we will be seeking feedback on the app over the next few weeks to improve the interface an available information to better server our users. Please feel free to reach out to us on Facebook, Twitter or look for the feedback button coming to the app itself in the next few days. As well keep an eye out for our videos coming to show off some of the features of the app as they become available!
With all that out of the way, here's the roundup for this week:
- Friday August 30 2014
- Acoustic Roots Festival - Two Rivers Wildlife Park
- 6 PM
- This one looks like a great time. Three days of shows and workshops! See our write up on the Festival for more info.
- Benefit for Mitchell Morrison - Main Event and Jiggers Lounge, Glace Bay
- 5 PM - 2 AM
- Highway-125 and Alter Ego
- A couple of great bands for a great cause. If you are in the Glace Bay are take a stop by.
- JP Cormier - The Normaway Inn & The Barn, Margaree Valley
- 8 PM
- The guitar aficionado in Margaree is a great way to kickoff in the long weekend.
- Saturday August 31 2014
- Slowcoaster's Mike & Steve - The Cabot Public House-Cabot Links Golf Course, Inverness
- 10 PM
- This is a great way to keep your night alive after a quick 18 on one of the most beautiful golf courses in the world during the day.
- Acoustic Roots Festival - Two Rivers Wildlife Park
- 1 PM
- Continuing from Friday and closing up on Sunday.
So that's it for this week, just a couple of shows to get the idea moving, only Friday and Saturday for this one but make sure to check out Music Guide Cape Breton for more events and check back often as we add more in the days and weeks coming.

Cape Breton Golf - Reviews / Previews - Cabot Links
Cabot Links
The newest addition to the Cape Breton golf scene has caused quite a stir among golfers local and from away. The course located on the west coast of Cape Breton in Inverness, is modeled as a traditional Scottish links course. It is set directly along the water leaving the golfer with breath taking views of the Gulf of St. Lawrence. Put on your golf shoes as in keeping with the traditional Scottish theme, this is a walking only course so along with the great views you'll get a great workout. This unique experience is a definite for all golfers in or coming to the area.
