Geocaching - Fortress of Louisbourg or really anywhere on Cape Breton

In continuing with an overview of the daily events for the Fortress of Louisbourg

Geocaching

Geocaching is a personal favorite activity of mine.  Bascially you get some latitudinal and longitudinal co-ordinates, plug them into a GPS or GPS enabled device like a smartphone and use them to locate a hidden "cache", a small box with a logbook to record the find.  It sounds pretty easy and sometimes it is and sometimes it isn't but it's always a lot of fun.

In order to geocache you need the following:

Sign up at www.geocaching.com, it's free.
The following caches are located at the Fortress of Louisbourg:

The Harbour
The Fishery
Fishing Village
Ruined Walls
Fading Lines
Fortifications
Frederick Gate

The caches contains a link to more information which can accessed from the Parks Canada Website.

There are also caches located all over Cape Breton Island.  The Cape Breton Highlands National Park acutally has a few special cache challenges setup that I will go over in a post coming up soon.

Also, we are hoping to get a listing of upcoming events in the Highlands from a new poster who will be keeping us up to date on happenings in northern Cape Breton, Nova Scotia for the summer.

The Fortress of Louisbourg is located near the town of Louisbourg, Nova Scotia (map) Wednesday, May 8, 2013 Labels: , , , ,
