Cape Breton Music Roundup #5 - September 25 - September 28 2014

A couple of great fundraisers headline the top shows on the Island this weekend, a great chance to get out, hear some great tunes and support some great causes.  Lots going on, so for this first week of autumn make sure to check out Music Guide Cape Breton for the complete list of events we have listed.

  • Thursday September 25 2014
    • David Rankin - Red Shoe Pub, Mabou
      • 9 PM
      • $8
      • A great show to kick off Autumn in a great location.  If you are anywhere nearby, get out to this one, even if you're not nearby, get out and enjoy the start of fall properly.
  • Friday September 26 2014
    • Country Explosion - Membertou Trade & Convention Centre, Sydney
      • 7 PM
      • $35 each.  Tables of 10 for $300
      • This fundraiser for feral and abandoned cats features 'Gone Country' performing from 9 PM - 1 AM as well as line dancing lessons and a silent auction. Get out to support our furry friends as well as have a great time.
    • JP Cormier, Dwayne Côté, Howie MacDonald - The Normaway Inn & The Barn, Margaree Valley
      • 8PM
      • $10 at the door
      • The 3 Fiddler Concert Ceilidh at The Barn sounds like a great way to spend the first Friday of Fall.
    • Pretty Archie with Danny MacNeil - Fox Den Bar and Grill, Sydney
      • 10 PM
      • Cost: NA
      • The bluegrass sounds of Pretty Archie headline this great show at the Fox Den.  Nothing like some banjo and harmonies to send off the Summer and kickoff the harvest season
  • Saturday September 27 2014
    • We Unite! Saturdays: Soho Ghetto/John-Paul and the Grassfire/Citywalk and Robbie Simms - Fox Den Bar and Grill, Sydney
      • 10 PM
      • Cost: NA
      • Halifax based Indie-folk / pop musicians Soho Ghetto will be taking their big harmonies and hook laden anthems with them to Sydney and the Fox Den. They will be supported by local indie rockers John Paul and the Grassfire, Mark Butlier and Citywalk as well as Robbie Simms of We Are The Sparks and Aries Latitude. Another great Saturday night show at the Fox Den.
  • Sunday September 28 2014
    •  5th Annual Cancer Patient Care Benefit Concert - Membertou Trade & Convention Centre, Sydney
      • 7 PM
      • $27.50
      • Another great fundraiser, another great show.  This event features performances by Dave Gunning, Coig, Buddy Mac Donald ,Blues Merchants, Gillian Head and Dano Paul, Brandon Johnson & Friends as well as James Munroe, Joe Waye Jr. ,"Red Mike " Mac Donald & Johnny Hawkins performing during the wine and cheese. Make sure to check this out.
  • ** All Weekend Shoutout **
    • Rowdy Dow - Old Triangle, Sydney
      • Apparently serving as the 'artist in residence' for the Old Triangle this weekend.  Rowdy Dow will be playing various sets from Thursday to Saturday Night, including a late afternoon set on Saturday. They're putting in the effort so if you're in the area, check em out.
    • 4th Annual Lumière Festival - Around Sydney
      • Not necessarily strictly a music event but always quite enjoyable.  With events and workshops taking place Thursday and Friday and the Art at Night installations taking place Saturday with the official after party at Flavour on the Water staring at 11 PM.  For more info check out the Lumière Festival website.  This is a great chance to get out and walk the city, meet other people and generally have a great time.  Highly recommend taking at least some of it in.
